Edayadil Tharavadu, originally constructed around 1830, is a traditional wooden house situated in Kannady, Alleppey. In the year 1924, when modern machinery was still unheard of in most parts of the country, the house was heaved up using wooden pillars, and a stronger house was constructed beneath it, using bricks and cement, and later, in 1979, it was extended to meet the demands of a larger family. Tastefully decorated with traditional furniture and pleasing curios, today, the glorious Edayadil Tharavadu stands as a treasure trove of antiques from different ages.
Cocooned within 4 acres of splendid Rubber plantations, this heavenly abode of the famed "EDAYADIL FAMILY OF KANNADY", in Pulinkkunnu (Alappuzha) is now open to you as the congenial homestay - "LAKES 'N'WOODS. Yes, a vast expanse of woods to trample joyously through, even as the Kuttanad backwaters surrounds. The huge trees are rest houses for myriad migratory birds as well as shelter for numerous native ones. It's no surprise then, that Lakes n'woods is a Birdwatcher's paradise. And for those who have always wished to feel that adrenaline rush as the fish swallows your bait, the premises boasts of a pond in which edible fishes are reared - yes, for the angler in you! Or you could just paddle out in small wooden village canoes and feel the rhythm of the backwater currents as you row, row and row away. If you are a quintessential adventure seeker, you can hop on to a bicycle, roam about and take in the village life, zigzagging through the paddy fields. And if you are just here to unwind, de-stress, just wake up, stretch and feed the pigeons roosting in the courtyard, laze in the swimming pool, and take in the verdure as you lie on the hammock or traditional "Maadom"s in the backyard, with a book or two from the library if you so wish and nature's tunes as a playful lullaby.
